More than 120 artists will offer their artistic interpretations of life in Florida at The Sunshine Show which opens Saturday at Bear and Bird Gallery.
Bear and Bird co-owner Amanda Magnetta-Ottati says some artists took the theme literally while others offered abstract views and that submissions included cut paper, a sock-flamingo, traditional photography and painting.
Located in a 700-square-foot loft at Tate’s Comics in Lauderhill, Bear and Bird is where many South Florida artists first show their works. Twice a year, the gallery invites all South Florida artists to display work in shows with themes that have included skulls, politics and custom-painted Munny dolls. Another local show coming up in October will focus on the theme of “Monsters Under My Bed.”
Artists participating in The Sunshine Show will include Danny Brito, Helena Garcia, Brigid Howard, Matylda McIlvenny, Brandy Rumiez (whose oil-on-canvas “Welcome to the Club” is pictured here) N! Satterfield, Amanda Valdes and Dan Woodruff. For a complete list, see Bearandbird.com.
The Sunshine Show will open 6-10 p.m. Saturday and run through April 17 at Bear and Bird Gallery, 4566 N. University Drive, Lauderhill. Call 954-748-0181.
