The mysterious Christopher Burlini event

Burlini, starts at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. According to Andrew Ackerman, an FAU student and the PR guy promoting this  event, it will be “a highly engaging and aesthetically pleasing showcase of amazing artwork” and “a fast-paced high-quality artistic adventure.” But we didn’t want you to have to take the promoter’s word for it, so we requested images of a work or two that would be on display and specifics about the event and what will make it so engaging.

Ackerman’s reply: “It’s special because it is so multi-faceted and will engage your senses, unlike any boring lectures with someone droning on and on … This is not one of those!”

The mystery, apparently, is intended to be part of the intrigue. “This presentation is indeed mysterious in a sense, as to what particular works Burlini will display and how it will all be conducted,” Ackerman explains. “It’s the fashion by which the artist works and prefers it and mystery, after all, is what truly makes art so awe-inspiring and attention-grabbing.”

In a quick search for clues about the show on Burlini’s Web site, we learned that the artist was introduced to art by his father and grandfather, sculptors whose works included “psychedelic circus machines” and abstract bronze figures. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Illinois Institute of Art, Burlini attended Florence Academy of Art in Italy, and has since painted large murals, illusions and special effects for the eccentric Squished Eyeball Magic Theater in San Francisco.

Burlini, who now lives in Miami, apparently also has a show opening at 7 p.m. Saturday at Gallery 51 in Boca Raton. Titled Circus and Sound, it will feature works from his series that is largely influenced by theater. Gallery 51 kindly granted us permission to post one of those works (which is pictured here).
