The art of Thursday

Katya Neptune-DialectTonight, it seems, is a good night for art and music.

Dialect, a night of art and music  presented by Twilight Notes and Kazilla, will feature DJs Esoteric, Andie Sweetswirl, Kent Lawler and Matthew P and art by Aleloop, Alexis Colbert, Anthony Bryan, Brandy Rumiez, Bridget Priedel, CandiSweetArt, Frankie Curran, Japanda, Jeff Dokken, Jon Hunt, Kazilla, Ke lo, L.o.s., Luzalma Gonzales, MarcPaperScissor, Mimi Botscheller, Nathan Lumm, Patrick Garcia, Paul Caprio, Sara Brumberg, Tim Bliss, Vernon Hadley and Katya Neptune (whose work is shown here) at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at Brew Urban Café, 209 S.W. Second Ave., Fort Lauderdale.

Tonight is also the kickoff the 8th Annual Women and Culture Festival which features a night of free artist lectures,  guided meditation and chanting by Mystic Water Kava Bar and Miami Yogashala, from 8 to midnight Thursday at 7th Circuit Studios 228 NE 59 St., Miami.  The three-day event continues with an Ultra Music Fest warmup that runs 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. the next morning with  Afro-Beta (its EP release party), Panic Bomber and DJs Run Sevim Run, DJPJ and Moshe of Nightdrive, Nate Campbell and New York  City’s VIDA and a special guest . Tickets for Friday are $10 in advance through Brown Paper Tickets. On Saturday, the party’s from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. with fashions by Krelwear, Art of Shade and Francisco Garcia, music by Palm Treez, The Geisha DJ Collective, Mschief, Sonya Feldman, Magda Noa Pantaleon, poetry from spoken word artist Amy Baez, traditional Indian music and dance by Ganavya and Afro-indigenous music and dance by La Fortuna. Artists exhibiting works at this event include Eva Ruiz, JSG Boggs, Margaret Accurso, Diane Patisse, Alyssa Christine,kava kraft night Chia O and Fiorella Podesta (whose work “Cachuna,” which means “Horn” is pictured here). Cost: $20 at the door.

Crafters can ease their way into the weekend by sipping kava and making projects with host Ragamufyn. Bring a work in progress and a gift for the Kava Kommunity Kraft Basket (beads, yarn, fabric scraps etc) to Kava Kraft Night which runs 5-8 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at Mystic Water Kava Bar, 2037 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood.
