Private Eye, billed as a housewarming party for LegalArt Residency, is a chance to explore the new live-and-work residency for Miami-based artists and visiting artists and curators. Funded through a grant from Knight Arts Partnership and designed by artist Daniel Arsham’s company Snarkitecture, it includes a community kitchen, showers, exhibition space, resource library and seven $400-a-month studio spaces including five for Miami-based artists and two that will be used for short-term residencies for visiting artists, curators and art scholars. The plan is designed to provide more opportunities for Miami artists to collaborate.

The party will include tours of the living spaces and studios of  TM Sisters (whose work in progress is pictured here), Manny Prieres, art collaborative Viking Funeral, and other Miami-based artists, performance art by Clifton Childree runs 7-11 p.m. April 7 at Legal Art Residency, 1035 N. Removal: Jel Martinez, a show of new works the artist has been making by “exorcising the ghosts of past graffiti artists and holding them in place.” According to the gallery, the artist’s work explores this question about graffiti: “Is it merely the product of a restless, socially marginalized class of urban youth visually presenting symbols of their activity or is the unadulterated desecration of personal and private property without even the slightest consideration to exact these expressions upon a legally obtained surface?” The show, which will include his work “Stored Thoughts” (pictured here) will open 7-10 p.m. April 7 and run through May 21.
