Art doesn’t wait for the weekend, so here are the details on a few events happening tonight …
Spinello Gallery owner Anthony Spinello will host The Last Supper, a “dinner and cocktail party of a divine nature” at Mercadito Midtown. Spinello, who is now Southeast editor and director of publicity for Dirty, a new creative quarterly that focuses on artists, designers, entertainment and food, will host the event along with 11 other “disciples” including David Jon Acosta (Gold Saturn) David Schwade (Downtown Duke), Edison Lozada (Quintessentially), Ernesto Reyes (Poplife), Julie Fogel (Patton Group), Jordana Mesner (Ocean Drive Magazine), Karelle Levy (Krelwear), Nektar De Stagni (NDS), Tony Cho (Metro 1 Properties), Vanessa Ruiz (WSVN), Zoë Nouet (Downtown Duchess) and special guest DJ Milan.
Spinello (pictured in this photo by Emanuel Ribas holding Kris Knight’s painting “Bloodflowers”) and the other disciples will surely be talking Dirty, a mag editors describe as “inspired by the subversive, the sarcastic and sometimes the absurd.” You can check it out at Dirty-Mag.com. Mercadito Midtown is at 3252 N.E. First Ave., Miami. Last Supper party starts at 9 p.m. tonight. For Last Supper reservations ($35 for sharing menu) call 786-369-0430.
ART BRAVO OPENING
Art Bravo, which ArtServe bills as its most prestigious contemporary exhibition, will open from 6-8 p.m. tonight at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Brenda Bradley, artist, curator, and educator from Columbia University in New York, judged the show this year.
LOMEG: THE ART OF BOTTLE CAPS
West Palm Beach bottle cap artist Lomeg will be the featured live artist at WeMerge Thursday, which will also feature an open mike. Lomeg, a South Florida artist and DJ, started making art during the free time he had while working as a watch repairmen. Initially, he used the spare watch parts such as bands, gears and batteries. When he left that job, he found something else to make art from: bottle caps. Fortunately, he doesn’t have to drink to excess to fuel his artistic passion. People who work at bars near his house save them up for him.
That’s a great idea. I’ve been saving up wine corks to make something special. It never occurred to me that I didn’t have to actually drink all that wine. Lomeg’s strategy is less expensive, and far less calories. Catch Lomeg and his caps at WeMerge Thursday, which starts at 7 p.m. at Kevro’s Art Bar, 166 S.E. Second Ave., Delray Beach.
