It’s that time of the month again in Wynwood and the Design District in Miami, and this is the month before Art Basel, so there are many great shows. Here are some details on several of the events, and more may be coming in later, so the list could grow.
▪ Sacrificial Offering, Miami artist Rick Falcon’s debut solo exhibition, opens at Butter Gallery on Friday the 13th. My story about Falcon’s show and learn why this man is giving it all up for his art.
▪ Mass-A-Peel, a show of Garbage Pail Kids works from Miami artist Luis Diaz will open at Harold Golen Gallery on Saturday.
▪ Miami painter Michael Vasquez explores the dynamics of gangs in How the Land Lies which opens 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Fredric Snitzer Gallery in Miami. Read my interview with Vasquez.
▪ Everybody Suz-ercise!, artist Susan Lee-Chun’s new exhibition, will open Saturday at David Castillo Gallery in Miami. …Lee-Chun, who confesses that she is “total infomercial freak,” approaches her work with a sense of humor and a lot of insight. … My story on Lee-Chun.
▪ Paul Aho, Julio Green, Darren C. Price, Ross Ford and Alexandra Suarez will show some of their new works in a Miami Art Exchange exhibition at Vernissage, 7-10:30 p.m. Saturday, 2051 N.W. Second Ave., Miami.
▪ Decollage, a show by New York artist Francesca DiMattio, opens 7-10 p.m. Saturday at Locust Projects in Miami.
▪ Soul of Miami has posted some details about the grand opening of the all new Scratch DJ Academy in the Design District where 8 local artists whose work is inspired by music, graffiti or Miami’s urban lifestyle will exhibit onSaturday night.
▪ Artlurker explored the Neckface exhibit at O.H.W.O.W. and wrotes a 3,499-word post about it. Saturday is the last day of the show, so arrive there between 8 and 10 p.m. if you don’t want to miss it.
