This is Lester, a little bird that flew from the imagination of Birds are Nice, a South Florida graphic designer and visual artist who will exhibit at Calix Gustav Gallery’s CG Boutique during the Mörker exhibition that opens during Second Saturday Art Walk in Wynwood Art District in Miami
Mörker, billed as CG Gallery’s darkest exhibition yet, is about “the gloomy darkness seen through a child’s dreams – and nightmares.” But Birds are Nice’s exhibit is described as vintage video, handmade toys, installations and fun.
Birds are Nice will be the first featured artist in CG Gallery’s new boutique, a smaller project room-type space designed to appeal to younger collectors. According toa press release from CG Gallery director Amanda Fernandez-Leon, Birds Are Nice wants to “have fun and make happy urban work that references pop culture along with the comic and cartoon genres. … Taking inspiration from the graffiti artists of our time, such as Word to Mother, Know Hope and countless others, Birds are Nice wishes to get the work out in the general public. There are many traveling outdoor projects currently in the works. BAN feels the art world takes [itself] very seriously. Lowbrow vs. highbrow, street art vs. gallery art? Art is art and Birds are Nice wants people to stumble upon the work and have a moment of laughter.”
Lester (pictured at the top of this post) is one of Birds are Nice’s works. There’s a huge plush toy to accompany the 12 little paintings of the bird in the heart.
You can visit Lester and Birds are Nice during the opening of Mörker which will feature charcoal and ink drawings by Johan Björkegren and graphite drawings by artists Ingrid Eliasson and Jennifer Basile.
