Art of the Weekend

Some weekend art events … and more coming later.

Check out artworks of 16 local artists and designers at For Arts Sake! The two-night show, presented by Freedom Art and International Working Artists Network, will also feature music by DJ Twilight Notes and the band Alexander.

Exhibiting artists and designers will include Stuart Rochford, Marcos Solis, Michelle Stevens, Olga Volkus, Rhee Polamus, Jose Lopez, Matylda McIlvenny, Raymond Brown, Ilian Velasco, Fili Campos, Steve Baum, Willie Morris, Tiffany Tam, Ryan Klaverweide, Gwen Gerisch and John Kissee, who work “Rose Madder” is pictured here. Kissee describes it as ” an urban-noir romance piece with a femme fatale at her window box, memories and roses blooming out of control.”

The System2THE SYSTEM

The System, a group of  Latin American artists and illustrators, will exhibit  at PinkGhost. The show, which will include works by Pian, Soma, Rony5, Piktorama, Sol Linero, Kelvin Osorio (whose work is pictured here) and Alberto Garcia, opens at 8 p.m. Saturday and runs through April 16 at PinkGhost, 1888 Radius Drive, Hollywood. Jackie Battenfield, author of The Artists Guide: How to Make a Living Doing What You Love, will speak at the closing of DBA II. The exhibition features works by Katherine K. Allen, Jeff Breed, Olga Dziembowska, Liliana Gerardi (whose work, “Faraway,” is pictured here)  Alan Isely, Rachel Piering and Jami Nix Rahn. DBA 2009 Curators Virginia Fairfield, Jacklyn Laflamme and LeeAnna Yater will also speak at the event., which runs 3-4:30 p.m. Saturday on the sixth floor of Broward County Main Library, 100 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale.
