STEP RIGHT UP: EVO LOVE’S GOT SOMETHING TO TELL YOUPicture_2

Like the flyer says, “Come one, come all, get your ass out of bed and get your fortune read.” Artist, gallerist and curator Evo Love will bring her vintage-themed artworks to life in Lil Miss Fortune, her performance art piece designed to conjure the thrill of automated Boardwalk fortune-teller booths. But Evo will be the fortune teller hurling predictions in the fashion of Queen of Mean Lisa Lampanelli, the insult-spitting Don Rickles and comedian Paul Mooney. Don’t expect warm fuzzy messages or ego coddling in return for your dollar. Expect the sort of bluntness that makes Evo Love Evo Love. This show isn’t about making you feel good. It’s about realities such as, hey, you’re not going to win the lottery and will probably have to work really hard till you die. No, that doesn’t lave much time for a love life, but that’s probably not a concern either. Love’s show is 7-10 p.m. Saturday at her own Stash Gallery in Miami, and after she’s through spreading good tidings here, she’ll take her show to Art Fuel in Wilmington, N.C. and Spice Factory Gallery in Brooklyn, N.Y.  Stash Gallery is at 162 N.E. 50th Terrace, Miami. phpKFfToKPMROSS FORD: ITERATIVE EXPRESSIONS

After learning how to draw comic-book characters as a kid, Ross Ford honed in on what distinguished one musclebound guy or buxom girl from the next — faces. He began to doodle them while in school and today has a six-foot tower of notebooks filled with thousands of faces. Since 2006, he’s produced nearly 400 large paintings that he has exhibited in 40 group and solo shows at bars, clubs, galleries and even a car wash. The faces have evolved into abstract images through “iterative expression,” a creative philosophy Ford describes as a continuing exploration of emotion through a consistent process. “Each painting is an evolution of the last. Whereas repetition aims to produce identical copies, the goal of iteration is to produce unique variations.” the Miami-based artist says. Next month, Ford will move to North Carolina with his wife, Cassie, who has been accepted into a doctoral program for cognitive neuroscience at the University of North Carolina. Ford will return to Miami for Art Basel and a February solo show at AE District. On Saturday, he’ll throw himself a going-away party and exhibition, titled Iterative Expression, with beer, music, a video about his artistic process and more art than he’s ever exhibited in one space. To see some of  his work and read more details about the show which runs 7-10 pm. Saturday at GAB Studio in Miami (with an after-party at Bardot), read our recent Fresh Art feature on Ford.176

ALELOOP AT BLU MOON

Alejandra Leibovich a.k.a. Aleloop will  be among the artists exhibiting at Blu Moon Studio of Art during coconut Grove Art Stroll on Saturday. Read more about Aleloop in our recent Fresh Art feature.

BRUNCH AT DORSCH GALLERY

titleDorsch Gallery’s two latest exhibits will close on Sunday with a brunch from noon to 3 p.m. Corin Hewitt’s installation, Drying Flowers with Microwaves, incorporated a performance space and focuses on the “impossibility of capturing an image.” From a makeshift studio he assembled within Dorsch Gallery, Hewitt created the photos that will be on display on Sunday. The work is meant to emphasize how knowledge, particularly in fields such as theater, performance art, craft and photography is a process rather than an end, and how that philosophy applies to life, death and work. Also closing on Sunday is Haptic, Jacob Robichaux’s first solo exhibition in Miami. Dorsch Gallery, 151 N.W. 24 St., Miami. Call 305-576-1278 or visit Dorschgallery.com.
