Last year, Miami artist Stephanie Rodriguez spent her days in her upstairs home studio, guzzling Chock Full o’Nuts coffee and creating oil paintings that portray classical musicians such as Beethoven, Bach and Mozart jamming with the likes of Alice Cooper, Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen.
The paintings, which explore the connections between classical and heavy metal music in a series titled Der Unbekannte Musiker (The Unknown Musician), will be the focus of Rodriguez’s short presentation tonight in “5 Minutes of Fame Artists’ Forum” at MOCA by Moonlight. The forum, which features local artists explain how and why they create their work, are held each month. Tonight’s event will include a special critique session by MOCA’s executive director and chief curator Bonnie Clearwater.
5 Minutes of Fame runs 7-9 p.m. tonight at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Joan Lehman Building, 770 NE 125th St., North Miami. The event is free with museum admission of $5, $3 for seniors and students with ID. Call 305-893-6211.
