About a week ago I came across an odd YouTube video of a guy who went to the last Second Saturday Art Walk, positioned his television on the sidewalk in Wynwood arts district, powered it from his car battery and dragged over four chairs and his cooler of beer.
Then he proceeded to watch the Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho with his newfound friends. All of it, of course, was captured in a video he posted on YouTube. It made me laugh so I posted Watch With Me (Psycho) here on ArtMurmur and contacted him.
It turns out that the artist, Misael Soto, is also a curatorial associate and design and web coordinator for the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, and he’s got some other projects in the works too. One of them is a performance he will be doing at The Myth of Power show that opens on Oct. 16 at 1310 Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. It’s called “I Will Fall and You Won’t Catch Me and I Will Make You Fall” It involves, at least in part, a bunch of people lining up and then falling down like human dominoes, much like they do in this video proposal for this piece.
The thing is, Misael could use more volunteers for this piece. He needs your help. So this is just a message to the little domino that lives inside all of you. If you’re good at falling down, drop him an e-mail at sotomisael@gmail.com. “The more the merrier!” he says. “The mandatory practice for that will be 4 p.m. Sunday at 1310 Gallery.”
